10 Apr Our Favorite Sandwiches
Invented in 1762, sandwiches are still quick, portable and great for eating outdoors – but now they are much fancier. Try our tasty favorites.
An American in Paris: Sourdough baguette which holds a good amount of succulent roast ham. The radish and watercress add some spice, as do the accompanying sweet potato chips. Sweet pickles on the side help it all go down beautifully. $12
Tavern Lunch: Mon-Fri: 11.30am – 2.30pm. tavernla.com
Crispy Wild Salmon Cakes: Two sliders about 3 inches in diameter, filled with a crispy breaded salmon cake, an equally crispy coleslaw and chipotle aioli. The salmon is wild, in keeping with all of their organic products. All the sliders come with tater tots on the side but you can substitute – and the vinegary, tomato and cucumber salad seems just the right partner for this. $12.95
Roast Daily: 11am – 9pm. roastdelimarketla.com
Turkey Sandwich: A turkey salad sandwich that is anything but basic. There are quite a few choices for bread but get it on the crusty, freshly baked ciabatta. Hold the mustard. There’s really no need for it! $7.50
Belwood Bakery Open: 7am – 6pm. belwoodbakerycafe.com
Pork Banh Mi: A patty of pulled pork and duck pate, topped with pickled carrots, cucumber and daikon for sweetness and a jalapeno aioli for a slight kick, combine to make the best sensory experience you can have with a slightly toasted brioche. $11
Fundamental Lunch: Tues-Fri: 11am – 3pm. fundamental-la.com
Herb Grilled Chicken: Warm, chewy ciabatta, complete with grill marks on top, laden with slices of grilled and nicely seasoned chicken, soft mozarella and a gooey basil pesto. Arugula gives it color and diffuses the one noteness of it all. The extra five minutes at closing time is a nice touch if you’re a procrastinator or slow eater. $9
Lemonade Lunch: Daily 11am -9.05pm. lemonadela.com
