12 Sep Baywatch Actress to Model Entrepreneur | Brande Roderick
From Baywatch to savvy business woman, Brande Roderick believes in making her own luck. She talks to Sandra Taylor about her book Bounce, Don’t Break, and career highlights which include roles in The Surreal Life, Celebrity Apprentice and the Starsky and Hutch movie.
Highlights from the video:
When I came to California, Playboy was my big stepping stone in April 2000. I guess I can blame my mother – she named me after a Playboy model. In fifth grade I said to my teacher that I wanted to be a Playmate. And yes, I would do it again. I loved the whole Playboy experience.
THE BIG BREAK:
I did my audition for the Starsky and Hutch (2004) movie and Ben Stiller told me that he and his wife were big fans of The Surreal Life on which I had appeared on a few years prior. The director, Todd Philips, was a huge fan of Emanuel Lewis, and when I heard that, I immediately called Emanuel and asked him for an autograph for Todd and the rest is history. It’s the little things that can really help. There is one thing I believe in and wrote it in my book “ think outside the box” – if you want something and you have a goal, don’t do what everyone is doing, think outside the box.
Everyone asks me if it was fun. It was really intense, working 16 hours a day, 6 days a week. We were doing projects in 2 days that normally would take 2 months. I loved the intensity as I am a really competitive person.
I don’t think there is such a thing as luck without the preparation and timing. I put myself in a position where the luck can find me. I want to be 100% prepared. I don’t like to be surprised.
An example of being prepared is when I was on the Celebrity Apprentice All Stars. I watched 70 hours of past episodes to size up my opponents and to see how they played the game. I do my research. If I am going to a meeting, I will Google every detail about the people who will be in the meeting, so that I can find common ground – something I can talk to them about.
A NEW PASSION: ALKALINE 88 WATER
It is alkaline water with a ph of 8.8. It is so important for you to have a higher ph so you don’t get sick, so you can have more energy and be better hydrated. This is one the things that has helped me with heartburn and arthritis. It has Himalayan minerals which is good for the skin and make you glow. As for taste, it’s super smooth compared to many of the others that have a chemical taste.
I am their spokesperson, shareholder and on their board of directors. I have been living an alkaline lifestyle for many years, I have been going to a spa in Palm Desert for the past 15 years, learning all about alkaline foods. Then my agent told me about this company and the rest is history. It’s a marriage made in heaven. It’s all my kids drink. I am mostly proud that we are the low priced leader, which is why I am so drawn to it – because every person deserves to be healthy.
